August Favorites: N6 Drop, Quince & Americana-Inspired Style to Wear Now and Into Fall

I’m soaking up every bit of August this year—it’s extra special. My birthday, our anniversary, a summer trip to Paris and Italy, and my daughter’s wedding all in one month. So many moments I’ll never forget. It’s also when I start thinking about pieces I can wear now and into fall. This month’s N6 Drop is inspired by Americana style and the clean, simple lines of Celine—two looks I’ve always loved. Ralph Lauren’s classic style fits right in, with a cotton blazer, brown suede for fall, straight-leg jeans, and scarves—classic and clean. Here’s a look at the Drop. Which one is your favorite?

The August N6 Drop

Each month, my Nordstrom styling friends and I pick six items we think are great items to add to your wardrobe. We look for pieces that fit 9 out of 10 women and are versatile enough to wear in different ways. This month, we added a bonus scarf for an extra print, and scarves are trending!

Double Breasted Blazer

The first item is a Double-Breasted Cotton Twill Blazer by Ralph Lauren. It’s a beautiful coat that wears more like a trench. If you’re 5’4″ or taller, this jacket will be perfect for you. I’m 5’2″ and found it a bit too big overall, but it looks fantastic on my taller friends. For a similar trench-style coat, better suited for petites, I suggest this option. It runs a little big, so I recommend sizing down.

V-Neck Cardigan

Sometimes the drop items sell out quickly, like the Ralph Lauren two-tone cardigan. But I’ve found an equally great option: the Quince V-Neck Cropped Fisherman Cardigan. I love the fit and style—it runs true to size and comes in several colors and stripes. I wore the speckled beige today, and it’s one of those easy pieces you’ll reach for again and again. You might also like the Quince Structured cardigan. I wear this style in 2 colors.

Mother Kick It Relaxed Straight Jeans

We kept with a current jean style and picked the Mother Kick It—relaxed straight-leg jeans that are trending right now. It’s a looser fit than the Paige Cindy (if you know that style) and has a longer inseam, making it perfect for my tall friends. And it’s an easy alteration for  my shorter friends. The longer length also means you can cuff it at the ankle for a fresh, on-trend look. I wear the Kick It in white, and so many of you loved it when I shared it. If you want an alternative, the Paige Anessa is another great option. Plus it’s available in petites.  It fits everyone and is current for the season. A look for less jean is the wide-leg style from Quince. It fits true to size, is a great fit and it’s $50.

Lauren Ralph Lauren Long Sleeve Linen Shirtdress

A classic shirtdress is something you’ll wear often and keep in your wardrobe for years. I love the idea of a red striped dress with sandals for summer, then switching to ballet flats or boots in early fall. You can even layer it over a swimsuit as a cover-up in the summer or over a turtleneck when the weather cools. If you’re looking for options, you might like this style or this shorter style from Frank & Eileen or a budget-friendly version from Quince.

Finishing Touches: Loafers, Handbags & Scarves

Loafers, handbags, and scarves are the finishing touches that can completely change an outfit. They’re the details that make a shirtdress look polished or give jeans and a sweater that extra something.

Loafers

sam edelman loafer

  • Sam Edelman – So comfortable with padding in the footbed. I love the toffee and gypsy tan colors for fall. Fits true to size.

  • Rag & Bone Carter – A great black, white or brown suede option. I wear the white, and it’s one of my most comfortable shoes. Runs big—size down a half size.

  • Gucci Jordaan – A timeless designer loafer and still one of my most comfortable pairs. Worth the investment.

Handbags

madewell bag

  • Madewell Suede Shoulder Bag – Luxe and pretty, with a handle that fits perfectly on the shoulder.

  • Madewell Tote – A longtime favorite I rely on. Chic, roomy enough for my computer and other daily essentials, and an all-around great bag.

  • Designer Options – If you’re looking for an investment bag, I’ve linked a couple of suede options here,  here and here.

Scarves

Burberry skinny scarf

Scarves are trending right now and are such an easy way to add color, pattern, and personality to your look. Whether it’s draped over your shoulders, tied at the neck, or looped through a handbag handle, they’re a small accessory with big style impact. Try this one this one here,  here or here. And a look for less one too.

Under $50 Finds You’ll Want in Every Color

The Quince cashmere crewneck is one of those pieces that looks and feels way more expensive than it is—soft, luxe, and true to size. I picked it up in grey, but I already have my eye on more colors before they’re gone. I also tried the wide-leg jeans (and you know how much I love my denim). They’re true to size, have just the right amount of stretch, and are super flattering. I’m wearing the 30″ inseam, and they’re just right.
