Skinny jeans aren’t out of style; they just aren’t trending! But there are other options you can wear that will make you feel up-to-date and maybe even younger.Look at my 5 recommendations below; I know you will find a modern denim you will want to add to your wardrobe. And, if you love wearing skinny jeans, try this one here and here.

Rise, Inseam and Wash – Buying Jeans Online

I get more questions about denim than any other clothing category. When looking for the perfect pair online, there are a few things to consider, like the rise, inseam, and wash. Let’s find your perfect jean rise. To do this, take a measuring tape and measure from your waist or preferred waistline, and measure down to the middle of your crotch. I know there is a better way to describe this, but I couldn’t think of one.

Another important measurement is your pant inseam. Measure from your crotch to your ankle to determine your ideal inseam length. I’m 5’2″ with a 10-inch rise and a 27-inch inseam. I use these numbers as a guide! I rarely find the perfect length jeans, so I look for petite sizes, cut the hem, or take them to a tailor.

Also, make sure to include a variety of denim washes into your wardrobe, from light wash for a casual look to dark jeans for an elevated look. Add ecru or winter white, black, grey, and possibly a color like blush.

1. Ecru

I’m into winter white or ecru jeans, especially as we get closer to spring. One style I’ve been wearing is by Rails. I packed the Getty on my recent trip to Palm Desert and plan to pack it again for another upcoming trip next week. This style tends to run big, so consider sizing down if you’re in between sizes and want a more fitted look. Another favorite of mine is the Frank & Eileen Galway kick flare. It’s stretchy and comfortable.

2. Wide Leg

Wide-leg pants typically have a fitted waist and are wide from your hip to hem which is a flattering silohette. Plus, a full-length style will elongate your legs; at 5’2″, that’s a bonus for me. Here are a few wide-leg options I recommend.

Frame Le Slim Palazzo

The Frame Le Slim Palazzo is one of my top-selling jeans, and everyone who tries it loves the fit and style; it’s available in many washes, too. The lupine has a 10.75″ rise and a 31″ raw inseam. I didn’t shorten these jeans, but it’s an easy alteration. I prefer this style with a heel, but if you wear flats, cut or hem the jeans to be on the longer side so you get a peek of your shoe. Also, this jean runs big. If you are between sizes, for a trimmer fit, size down.

Try wearing your wide-leg jeans with flats or sneakers for a casual look. This look was part of a 3-3-3- outfit challenge. Putting outfits together using 9 items was a fun challenge. If you missed it, you can watch it on IG here.

Remember when we cuffed our jeans? The trend is back and can add interest to your denim look. There are some trendy cuffed wide-leg styles available. Citizen of Humanity has the trendy Ayla high-waisted wide-leg, baggy-style cuffed jeans. I have a couple of taller friends who wear these jeans, and they look very hip and cool. To see the fit, I tried a lighter wash Ayla on at Evereve, but the style overpowered my 5′ 2″ frame. Ha! If you like this style, try it; it’s trending. It’s an oversized look, so size down if between sizes. Although I haven’t tried it, this Agolde Dame is a popular cuffed style, too.

Paige Anessa

Lastly, if you like wide-leg cropped jeans, I recommend the Paige Anessa. It has a high rise of 12″, but I wear this style and find it comfortable. These are older photos of the Paige Anessa, but I’ve linked current washes. These pink jeans were very popular, so I’m glad Paige updated them for the season.

3. Straight Leg

Straight jeans are a timeless style you can always count on in your wardrobe. I love wearing classic straight jeans with a blazer; it’s a guaranteed chic look. I’ve been searching for the perfect straight leg that is flattering. I found a few. I recently tried the Madewell regular, curvy 90s Sraight and liked the fit and style. I found these to run big, so I sized down. The regular size is very long, so I’m reordering a petite size. What I like about the style is they fit through the waist and hips but are looser through the legs without looking sloppy. The Madewell is a casual straight-leg to wear every day. You might also like the Agolde Kye mid-rise anklewhich has great reviews. Plus, I like the fit of the Mother Tomcat, and the Mother Dazzler.

Levi

Levi’s have little stretch and I always size up to get the right fit.

4. Flare

A cropped flare is my go-to denim style. At 5’2″, I like this style, but some of my taller friends prefer full-flare-length jeans like this one here. If wearing cropped jeans, make sure you show a little ankle. I haven’t hemmed these jeans yet, so they are a little long in the photo. Plus, any shoe style works with these jeans, like the trending slingback flat, slide,  ankle boot, or sandal.

5. Barrel Leg

This style is not for everyone. I just took a poll on Instagram to see if my IG friends like barrel pants, and it was pretty much a hard NO. Ha. I like the style and feel it has cool vibes, but I realize it’s not for everyone. This style by Citizen of Humanity is trendy.
