How often do you reach for denim to create an outfit of the day? As a former Nordstrom stylist, it was one of my customers’ most asked-about items, and I styled it most often. Whether running errands or dressing up for a night out, it’s the perfect piece to wear. So, today, I’m sharing 5 ways to style your denim and highlighting the jackets to complete each look. I hope you enjoy today’s post!
1. Blazer
Wearing a blazer and t-shirt with denim is a classic way to elevate your outfit. Wear a flare or wide-leg denim with your favorite t-shirt for an updated look this spring.
2. Utility Jacket
If you’re looking for a versatile and stylish layering piece to pair with denim, I recommend the utility jacket by Treasure & Bond. It will be a great addition to your spring wardrobe and has pockets! This jacket runs a little roomy, so if you want it fitted, size down.
3. Denim Jacket Alternative
It’s nice to have a variety of jeans in your wardrobe, and the same goes for jean jackets. I just came across this one by Veronica Beard. It’s a little longer than the typical style, creating a dressier look with your outfits. I’m also into the denim-on-denim trend, and this jacket would be the perfect addition to that look. Will you wear the denim-on-denim trend? The straight denim pictured is by AG and will give you a relaxed look. The Paige Cindy is also a straight denim that is a favorite too.
3. Trench Coat
A classic trench is a versatile coat you can wear with jeans, plus it’s timeless and will never go out of style. Try wearing it over a black blazer and jeans for an effortless look. Of course, you can always switch things up by pairing your trench coat with a blazer, t-shirt, and sneakers for a more relaxed outfit.
5. Classic Jean Jacket
The classic jean jacket is the perfect addition to wear with dresses, skirts, trousers, and jeans.
Try wearing it with white denim for a casual look. It’s ideal for those spring days when you want to look put together without trying too hard. Ha!

Love all these looks, sadly too expensive for me.
Thank you for following and I appreciate your feedback! I try to mix high and low items to create outfits but will try to add additional moderate price items.
Sandy
Hi Sandy, I’m new to your blog and have a question. Can you tell me what make white jeans you’re wearing in the first picture? I’m only 5’2″ and am having an awful time trying to find petite white jeans that look good. I’m 67 so maybe nothing frayed but would prefer a boot cut jean. Not a Talbot’s fan, although they do offer petite sizing. One more question. Is it true that wearing white jeans one size larger than your normal size more flattering than wearing the exact size?
Thanks
PS I live in RI where we had a Nordstrom in Providence but has since closed. Lost without my Nordstrom.
Hi Lisa,
Thank you for reaching out. Finding white jeans that fit petites can be challenging. I’m 5’2 as well! In the photo, I’m wearing the full-length demi-boot jean in White wash by j.crew.
I really like the fit and they have a finished hem. You don’t have to go up a size in white denim, but I usually do. I like to have a little extra wiggle room. Ha. I also like the Mother hustler or insider for a petite frame too. The jeans should be linked (the blog with the black blazer and white jeans). But, let me know if you need links for them. Also, I’m sorry your local Nordstrom closed! I can’t imagine. Please ask questions any time.
