Basics are the foundation of our wardrobe and the pieces we wear most often. So, now that it’s September, it’s an excellent time to review items in your fall wardrobe to see which basics need updating and replacing.
For quality basics, I look to Nordstrom and their house brands or NPG brands (Nordstrom Product Group). Innovation and care go into the design and production of Nordstrom labels, and the house labels make up a large portion of Nordstrom merchandise. I wanted to find the best NPG basics for you, so I looked in several departments and was thrilled to see many items under $100.
Black & White Basics
Halogen’s faux leather split hem pant is very comfortable and versatile. You can dress up these pants with boots, a pretty blouse, and a blazer, or dress down with a cozy sweater, loafers, or sneakers. The blouses below are available in various colors and are great tops to wear under a blazer or cardigan. Don’t forget to add color to make your outfits interesting. Bright colors are trending this fall, so try adding a color like burgundy pink to your wardrobe. This coat, by Nordstrom, will add color to all your outfits.

Neutral Color Basics
You can create multiple outfits if you include various neutral-colored items in your wardrobe. For example, camel is a warm tone and goes well with other colors in your closet, like black, white, navy, green, and berry.

Cocktail and Work Dresses
A slip dress is a versatile item to have in your wardrobe. You can dress it up with heels or dress it down by layering a sweater over it and wearing boots. I love the Halogen slip dress, especially in yellow. Add a gold shoe and bag, and you are ready for a special occasion. If you want to cover your arms, wear a shawl or blazer.

Activewear Basics
I love comfortable activewear like Zella leggings, joggers, and the lightweight jacket pictured below. I wear this jacket when walking or running errands. What do you think about the orange belt bag? I love the added color to the look.
