How to Wear White For Fall 2020!

Growing up, I always packed my white clothing away after summer. To this day, I still think about whether or not I should keep my favorite white denim hanging in my closet, ready to wear during fall. I have the same conversation with my styling friends, should we wear white after labor day, or should we store it until spring?  This year, things are different. White is trending, and I am keeping my white clothing in my closet, ready for rotation.

Here are three rules to follow to help you create white looks for fall.

1.

Add a Dark Sweater or Jacket

One way to immediately change up your white denim look for fall is to swap your summer tanks and t-shirts for darker colored tops, sweaters, and blazers. A dark color on top creates a nice clean contrast when wearing white denim. Styling Tip: when choosing a blazer to wear with white denim, choose a solid color, plaid or print with a hint of white. When wearing white denim, a neutral color shoe will elongate the leg and balance out the denim. Switch it up and wear a dark shoe to create a contrast to the outfit.

Pictured above, I am wearing a Dries Van Noten blazer over an ivory sweater and white denim. Wearing a suede taupe boot elongates my leg and completes the look.

Camel color sweaters are classic, and sophisticated when paired with white. This one, by Akris Punto, is a splurge, but it will be in my closet for years. Stylist Tip: You can also pair your camel sweaters with a black skirt, black denim, or wear over a black slip dress. This short, medium-weight overcoat is by Acne. Feel free to reach out if you want more info on this particular item or the Dries blazer above. Other sweaters and coat ideas are here and here.

Brown is a color we don’t see often, but it’s a soft neutral tone that complements many of my customers. I paired this Theory sweater with the brown suede boots by Christian Louboutin highlighted in my previous blog post.  Compared to the black sweater and blazer looks I styled above, a softer shade like chestnut or espresso can warm up a stark contrast and create an easy fall color palette. I like to try other color combinations, such as black and white, navy and white, and camel and white too.

2.

Create a Monochromatic Look

It doesn’t matter the season, when you wear a monochromatic look, your outfit will never be boring.  Here I show outfits using shades of white to create a casual yet sophisticated look.

Sweater- Moncler, Trench coat-Burberry

Whether you wear a camel trench coat, overcoat, or sweater, they always look classic and chic together.

Not truly monochromatic, but these are neutral colors that work together. Including grey tones with the different textures and patterns creates interest for the eye in an unexpected way.

I love this monochromatic taupe look.  Each piece can stand alone, but collectively, create a very sophisticated look.

3.

Add White Boots and White Coat

The third way to wear white into fall is by mixing up your typical footwear and outerwear. Yes, white boots are trending, and they add interest to your look. I personally love wearing mine with skirts.  I don’t typically wear a high heel, so this lower heel boot is perfect to wear to work and around town.

I am having fun pairing this boot and sweater jacket with the mauve skirt.  Did you know mauve is a versatile color? It blends well with brown, grey, black, and navy too. The white jacket is comfortable, elevates any casual outfit, and makes the look of this skirt more casual.

I hope you take these ideas and apply them to your wardrobe to create fashionable fall looks!

Please remember to email any questions you have and send in your comments and suggestions too. I love receiving your emails! Have fun wearing your white outfits this fall. See you next time.

Cheers, Sandy
